A quantity surveyor (QS), often called a construction cost consultant, manages all financial and contractual aspects of building projects from inception to completion. They ensure projects are completed within budget by estimating material/labor costs, preparing contracts, monitoring expenses, and managing risks. Key Responsibilities
-Cost Estimation & Planning: Calculating quantities and estimating labor/material costs for tenders.
-Budget Management: Setting project budgets and conducting regular cost analysis (cost control).
-Contract Administration: Preparing, negotiating, and managing contracts, including bills of quantities.
-Valuations: Valuing completed work on-site and approving contractor payments.
-Risk Management: Identifying commercial risks and advising on contractual disputes.
-Change Control: Documenting design changes and updating budgets accordingly
Required Skills and Qualifications
-Education: A degree in quantity surveying, construction engineering, or a related field, often accredited by bodies like RICS.
-Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and construction methods.
-Analytical Skills: Strong mathematical abilities to analyze project data and financial risks.
-Communication: Effective negotiation skills to deal with clients, contractors, and subcontractors.
-Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to reviewing contracts and blueprints.
Remuneration – Benefits:
